To get this list, researchers examined the ten biggest metro areas in the country and ranked suburbs within a 25-mile commute of the downtowns. The criteria included the median list price for a single-family home of at least 1,800 square feet, and only the suburb with the lowest cost per square foot in each metro area made the cut.
